Florence
Nightgale was born in 12 May 1820 in Florence. She got her name from
the city she was born. As she grown up she wanted to become a nurse
but her parents tried to stop her. They wanted her to get married
instead.
She went to Germany to learn about nursing. She looked after sick people and helped them during operations. In 1854 Britain entered Crimean war. Florence were there to help the wounded soldiers. She cleaned up the dirty hospital and made it safe. She made the death percent sank from 40% to 2%. She was very kind to the soldiers and she gave them hope. Every night she used to go with a lamp in the hall, that's why she got the nickname “The lady with the lamp”.
After the war she wrote a book about how to make a hospitals better. She thought nurses should learn from both experience and training. In 1860 she opened a school for nurses. She died in London when she was 90 years old. On her gravestone it says “F.N. Born 1820. Died 1910.
